The Olifants River supplies nearly 500 km of life-giving waterways, which run from the Loskop Dam, throughout the Loskop Valley. A man-made wonder best reflected during rainless Bushveld winters when the earth is drab brown and yellow, yet the Valley is lush with green pivot circles.
Green citrus trees numbering in the hundreds of thousands, and well over 20 000 irrigated hectares with grapes, wheat, potatoes, maize, tobacco, cotton, sweet corn, beans and much more under production. The Scheme consists of a network of cemented canals and 7 balancing dams.
Traveling through the valley you will catch glimpses of the canals and catchment dams, where the farmers store their water. During peak periods up to 33 000m3 water per hour can be delivered by the Left Bank main canal.
Visit the largest privately-owned citrus farm in the Southern Hemisphere or shop for locally-made preserved jams, chutney, pies, cookies and rusks, as well as hand-crafted table cloths from the Schoeman upliftment project.
